Custom-made spiral staircase – this is a modern designed staircase; the large wooden steps are stained with walnut dye. The wood is from native grown Irish trees and sourced locally. I designed this staircase to give a sweeping motion from the library mezzanine into the main living area.
The oak and glass staircase unit (with incorporated storage) was died walnut and than French polished. It leads upstairs into the Bedroom. The Bedroom is in-cased in glass and structural beams. Some of which are from the original roof others are new additions to create the new railings; the newer beams and the wardrobe have rounded corners to soften the effect.
I designed and built this glass and oak-beam hand railing for a spacious landing area. The clients wanted to optimise on the light intake hence we chose glass to complement the long strong oak beams. The longest out of 5 oak beams is 22 ft long and weighs almost 400 pounds and gives you a sense of strength and security as the Mezzanine floats high above the ground floor.
